Right Based Programs


RIC is the pioneer organization working to preserve rights of the Elderly from 1997 with the assistance of HelpAge International in different areas of the country. Through continuous advocacy by the organized Older People “National Policy on Ageing” approved by the government in 2014 and developing an Action Plan to implement policy provision gradually where RIC is playing a vital role. RIC has experience of working with 20000 working children, 12000 guardian and 25000 community people at 90 wards of Dhaka Metropolitan city from 2002 to bring back the working children to education and restrain them from the hazardous form of child labor with ILO. RIC is working with 990 poor and hardcore poor women and adolescent girls with the name of EKATA (Empowerment Knowledge and Transformative Action). The main objective of this intervention is to build the capacity of these women and girls to establish their rights and raise voice to the different service providers for getting service and providing literacy & numeric non-formal education. RIC has started to work on land rights in Moheshkhali under Cox’s Bazar district. Identification of Khasland, Awareness rising among the landless, establishing linkage with land office and advocacy is the main focus of this land rights.

1. Older People Welfare Fund (OWF): With an aim to contribute to the lives and livelihood of the poor and vulnerable older people in Bangladesh RIC has been facilitating social and health services for the older people by providing economic and material support to the poor and vulnerable older people to solve their problems and meeting up their specific needs. 

Currently, a fund is being created from the regular monthly contribution of RIC’ microcredit operation services, contributions from its staffs and donations from personal and organizations. Gradually the fund will be generated from other sources like NGOs and Corporate sectors and other educational institutions. Eye Camp

At present in RIC is providing eye care particular organizing eye camp and cataract operation are done for the older people in different parts of the country.

Under the initiative, there is a plan to provide health services to the older people by appointing Physician in each of the working areas of RIC.

Housing Support: Housing is one of the basic needs of the people, older people always suffer more due to the lack of adequate housing facilities. Their sufferings increase during monsoon and in the winter season. Taking this into account, housing repairing or construction support will be provided to the older people those who cannot afford their expenditure or cannot arrange their financial support from their families. Housing support will also be provided to the older people who become the victim in the natural disasters

Livelihood Support: RIC will identify the vulnerable older people and will provide them with livelihood support. These supports include cash for food and medicines, help to engage them in the old age friendly income generation activities, etc

Credit support for the income generating activities of the older people: To engage the older people more active and alleviating their poverty and establishing self-sustainability, initiatives will be taken for involving the older people in their income-generating activities. To support the initiatives, the older people who are physically active and interested to earn by investing capital and has experiences they will be supported from this fund with less interest.

Formation of OP Organization: The areas where OP groups already have been formed, the OP members of the RIC’s Microcredit programmes will be included in the OP groups. Besides, in the RIC’s Microcredit programme areas where there is no OP group existed, new OP group will be formed following the ideal OP group formation structure. The purpose of the forming group is to increase of awareness on older people issue and including the older people in the development process and justify their contributions in a sustainable manner.

2. Slum-based Citizens Action Network (SCAN): RIC is implementing the projects in 10 selected slum of Dhaka city. The main objective of the project is to enhance CSOs contributions to realizing the rights to effective Water Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) and Waste Management (WM) services of slum dwellers and marginalized groups in Dhaka City.

Specific Objectives of the project is to build the capacity of CSOs in slum areas of Dhaka City to advocate and act for access to the basic rights of WASH and Waste Management and participate in local governance through collaboration with Local Authorities and the establishment of strong formal linkage systems between them.

The project is implementing with the financial support of the European Union. Duration of the project is for 42 months starting from January 2018. Solidarity International is the implementing partner of this project.
